PERUGIA/STARNBERG, June 6, 2026
Andrea Pellegrino continued his impressive run at the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Perugia | G.I.Ma. Tennis Cup, completing the semi-final line-up with a commanding 6-2, 6-3 victory over Italian wildcard Pierluigi Basile on Friday.
The defending champion, who lifted the trophy in Perugia last year, has now won eight consecutive matches at the ATP Challenger 125 event across the 2025 and 2026 editions. On the Centre Court of the Tennis Club Perugia, experience proved decisive as the 28-year-old from Bisceglie controlled the all-Italian quarter-final against the 18-year-old Basile.

“Although I spent less time on court than in my previous matches, it was still a very difficult contest,” Pellegrino said afterwards. “Usually I’m the one making my opponents run, but today I had to work hard because of Pierluigi’s quality. I congratulated him at the net because he played really well.”
Pellegrino will now face third seed Daniel Merida for a place in the final. The Spaniard continued his excellent form with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory over fifth seed Pablo Llamas Ruiz.
“It will be a very tough match,” Pellegrino said. “Daniel is young and playing at an incredibly high level right now. I feel ready, so we’ll see what happens. As for my team, without them I probably would have gone out in the first round. They help me stay calm, especially off the court, and allow me to play without too much pressure.”
