BRASILIA/STARNBERG, June 7, 2026
Home favorite Luiza Fullana crowned a memorable week at the Brasilia Open ITF W15 by winning the singles title on Sunday at the Arena Mane Garrincha. The 25-year-old defeated fellow Brazilian Marjorie Souza 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 after two hours and 22 minutes to lift her first professional title in Brasília, her first trophy of the 2026 season, and the sixth ITF World Tennis Tour singles title of her career.
Currently ranked world No. 516, Fullana overcame a strong challenge from Souza in what was the first professional meeting between the two players. While Fullana celebrated another career milestone, Souza was bidding for the first professional singles title of her career.
“I’m very happy with this title,” Fullana said after the match. “Marjorie played really well, and it was a very difficult match. I’m happy that we were able to have an all-Brazilian final after such a special week. I think we’re making history. It was also incredible to have the support of my family, friends, and the people who are part of my daily life. So many people came to watch me, and I could feel their energy throughout the match. I’m very happy with the result.”
The tennis action in Brasilia continues this week with the ITF M15 men’s event, also hosted at the Arena Mane Garrincha. The final round of qualifying will be played on Monday, while main-draw action begins on Tuesday. The tournament features players from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay, with local hope Paulo Saraiva among the leading contenders.
