Luciano Ambrogi will play in the final of the AAT Challenger IEB+ Tucuman against Colombia’s Johan Rodriguez this Sunday at the Tucuman Lawn Tennis Club. Entry is free, and the match will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 3.

Once again, the clay courts of Tucuman will host an Argentine finalist in an international tournament. The third edition of the ATP Challenger 50 event in the province will feature Rosario’s Ambrogi, who defeated his compatriot Guido Justo 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 on Saturday.

The difference compared to previous editions is that this year’s final will feature a foreign opponent, as in 2024 Andrea Collarini defeated Hernan Casanova, and in 2025 Alex Barrena beat Santiago Rodriguez Taverna.

“I improved my serve as the match went on. Regarding mentality, I’m very happy with the work I’ve been doing with my entire team. I’m proud to be able to win matches like these, which used to be difficult for me,” said the 22-year-old from Rosario.

At the end of the match, Ambrogi embraced his coach Federico Moreno. “He congratulated me on my great match. We spent a long time where things weren’t working in tournaments or we had misunderstandings and weren’t finding a good feeling. Little by little I changed on court; I used to be more irritable, and that made the environment tense. That is improving and makes things easier,” he explained in self-criticism.

On the other side of the final will be Johan Rodriguez, who is also reaching his first career final on the circuit after defeating Nicolas Kicker 6-4, 6-3.

The player from Melgar, Colombia, delivered a strong performance, giving Kicker very few chances with an aggressive game and low-margin but highly effective shot-making.

This year, Rodriguez joined the University of Oklahoma Sooners to play college tennis in the United States, seeking a new opportunity to continue his tennis career, as financial limitations began to prevent him from competing on the professional circuit.

“Many times my parents stopped eating to take me to a tournament and to feed me,” he said, reflecting on his childhood in his hometown of 40,000 inhabitants.

“Seeing my family’s sacrifices made me take on a greater responsibility and commitment to myself to move forward and want to succeed. That hunger I’ve had all these years is what brought me here. My father has done everything possible,” he added about his father, Alexander, who is also his coach.
