The singles final of the Enea Poznan Open ATP Challenger will feature an all-South American clash after Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta and Brazil’s Gustavo Heide emerged victorious from two gripping semifinal encounters on Friday at Park Tenisowy Olimpia.

Diaz Acosta, one of the tournament favorites, had to overcome a strong challenge from Italian qualifier Michele Ribecai. The two players met for the first time, and Ribecai surprised the Argentine with his aggressive approach, taking the opening set 6-2. However, Diaz Acosta gradually found his rhythm, raised his level significantly, and turned the match around to secure a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory after two hours of play.

“It was an incredibly difficult match and I’m very happy with the win,” said Diaz Acosta. “He started really well, but I managed to find solutions and win more points as the match went on. In the end, the victory is what matters.”

The 25-year-old from Buenos Aires will be competing in his fourth Challenger final of the season. He has won all three of his previous finals this year, in Tigre, Sao Leopoldo and Francavilla al Mare, and arrives at the title match in excellent form.

His opponent will be Gustavo Heide, who produced a remarkable comeback against Czech Dalibor Svrcina in the second semifinal. Last year’s Poznan finalist appeared on course to return to the championship match when he led 5-3 in the second set and stood just one game away from victory. Heide refused to surrender, however, rallying to claim the second set before taking control of the decider and winning 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 after nearly three hours on court.

“Yesterday and today I played very long matches. I’m tired, but happy,” said the Brazilian, who has won 17 of his last 21 matches. “I never stopped believing, and neither did my coach. I kept fighting point by point and managed to turn the match around.”

Saturday’s final will also carry an added layer of intrigue. Diaz Acosta and Heide met in the final of the Challenger event in Francavilla al Mare earlier this year, where the Argentine prevailed in three sets. Diaz Acosta also defeated the Brazilian in Montevideo in 2023, giving Heide a chance not only to claim the Poznan Open title but also to avenge two previous defeats.
