SANTA PONCA/STARNBERG, June 24, 2026

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was the standout performer on the fifth day of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships. The 27-year-old Spaniard defeated Australia’s Adam Walton 6-4, 7-5 in less than an hour and a half to book his place in the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 grass-court event. The tournament’s second seed produced a solid performance in front of another lively crowd at the Mallorca Country Club.

Davidovich Fokina conceded just three points on serve in the opening set and converted his second break-point opportunity to take control of the match. The second set was more competitive, but the Spaniard remained in command throughout. Walton saved several break points, but at 5-5 he was unable to fend off Davidovich Fokina’s decisive breakthrough.

His quarterfinal opponent will be Grigor Dimitrov in one of the most anticipated matches of the week in Santa Ponça. The Bulgarian had to work harder than the scoreline suggests to defeat Jordan’s Abudallah Shelbayh 6-2, 6-4. The Rafa Nadal Academy player pushed the former world No. 3 throughout large stretches of the match and came close to causing further problems. The reward is now a high-quality showdown between two of the most talented players remaining in the draw. Davidovich Fokina leads the head-to-head record 2-0, although both previous meetings were played on clay. The grass courts of the Mallorca Country Club will provide a completely different setting for what could feel like an early final.

Centre Court action will begin at 11:00 am with the quarterfinal between Vit Kopriva and Ethan Quinn. The US-American needed three sets and more than two hours to defeat Murphy Cassone 3-6, 7-6, 6-3. He will now face Kopriva, who continued his impressive run in Santa Ponça by defeating Ignacio Buse 7-5, 6-1. The Peruvian, who had stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas the previous day, once again enjoyed strong support from the stands.

The second match on Centre Court will see Luciano Darderi take on Nuno Borges for a place in the semi-finals. The Italian top seed will look to reinforce his status as tournament favourite on a surface where he is producing some of the best results of his career. Borges, meanwhile, will try to continue his excellent form. Interestingly, the last time he reached an ATP quarterfinal was also in Spain, at the ATP 500 event in Barcelona.

The quarterfinal line-up will be completed by Fabian Marozsan and Miomir Kecmanovic, who will meet for the third time in just one month after sharing victories in Roland Garros and Halle. Their match will be played in the third slot on Centre Court.
