QUITO/STARNBERG, July 3, 2026
The quarterfinal line-up is now complete at the Challenger de Quito Copa Banco Guayaquil, with players from Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina securing their places among the tournament’s final eight at Club Rancho San Francisco.
Brazil’s Felipe Meligeni Alves continued his encouraging return to competition after a three-month injury layoff, defeating Argentina’s Valerio Aboian 6-2, 6-4. The Brazilian, who resumed competition last week in the Wimbledon qualifying event, produced another confident performance as he continues to rebuild both his form and confidence.
“I’m very happy. Today was another match where I played at a good level, and that’s the most important thing because I’m improving with every match,” said Meligeni Alves. “My mindset has been very positive, and that’s helping me stay calm even when things don’t go my way. Reaching the quarterfinals after such a long time feels great. I’m gaining confidence again because it’s been a long time since I was able to play this many matches in one week due to my injuries.”
The Brazilian Davis Cup player will next face Mexico’s Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez, the former world No. 1 junior, who delivered an equally convincing performance by defeating Argentina’s Segundo Goity Zapico 6-2, 6-2.
The remaining two quarterfinal places were claimed by Colombia’s Samuel Heredia, who defeated Brazil’s Eduardo Ribeiro 6-4, 6-4, and Argentina’s Ignacio Monzon, who overcame compatriot Juan Manuel La Serna 6-2, 6-3.
