BRAUNSCHWEIG/STARNBERG, July 11, 2026
The singles finalists at the BRAWO OPEN 2026 have been decided after an outstanding semi-final day in Braunschweig. Under bright sunshine and temperatures approaching 29°C, Jan Choinski and Hugo Gaston booked their places in Sunday’s championship match at the ATP Challenger 125 event.
Top seed Choinski continued his impressive run with a commanding 7-5, 6-2 victory over Spain’s Daniel Rincon. The opening set was closely contested, but Rincon began to fade physically and mentally after his gruelling three-hour quarter-final against Laslo Djere the previous day. Choinski remained composed throughout, using his powerful, accurate baseline game to dictate play and pull away in the second set.
“I was very focused and concentrated and felt really good on court,” said Choinski after securing his place in the final. The British-German, who won four Challenger titles last season, will now have the opportunity to add another trophy to his collection.
The second semi-final produced one of the best matches of the tournament as Gaston outlasted Facundo Diaz Acosta in a gripping three-hour-and-23-minute battle. Both 25-year-old left-handers showcased exceptional shot-making and tactical variety in front of a packed Centre Court crowd.
Diaz Acosta claimed the opening set 7-5 and also led 5-2 in the second, but Gaston mounted a remarkable comeback to win the tie-break and force a deciding set. The Frenchman carried that momentum into the third, eventually sealing a dramatic 5-7, 7-6, 7-5 victory after one of the highest-quality encounters of the week.
What a match! 👏
