BRAUNSCHWEIG/STARNBERG, July 12, 2026
The 32nd edition of the BRAWO Open concluded on Sunday with world-class tennis, glorious summer sunshine and a packed crowd at the BTHC grounds in Braunschweig’s Bürgerpark. After 11 days of outstanding ATP Challenger 125 action, Jan Choinski emerged as the singles champion, while Brazil’s Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos captured the doubles title.
The day began with the doubles final, where top seeds Luz and Matos faced fourth-seeded French pair Arthur Reymond and Luca Sanchez. After a closely contested opening set, the Brazilians edged ahead with a crucial break before securing the set 7-5. They carried that momentum into the second set, racing to a commanding lead before sealing a convincing 7-5, 6-2 victory after 90 minutes.
Following the match, Reymond reflected on his emotional return to Braunschweig.
“After winning the doubles title here in 2023, I was involved in a serious car accident and had to fight for my life. To be back in another final here means a great deal to me,” he said.
Luz praised both the tournament and his opponents after lifting the trophy.
“We’re very happy to have won and hope to come back to Braunschweig soon. Everything about this tournament was perfect.”
Choinski defeats Gaston
The singles final featured fourth seed Jan Choinski against eighth seed Hugo Gaston, pitting the Briton’s powerful, consistent baseline game against the Frenchman’s creative shot-making.
Despite spending more than three hours on court in Saturday’s semifinal, Gaston made the brighter start, using his trademark variety to take the opening set 6-4. Choinski responded emphatically, cutting down his errors and dictating rallies with aggressive, precise groundstrokes to dominate the second set 6-0.
Gaston received treatment for muscular issues during the match and fought hard to stay in contention, but Choinski maintained his composure in the deciding set to complete a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 comeback victory and claim the BRAWO Open 2026 title.

“I’m very happy to have won the tournament,” Choinski said after the final. “I played freely and aggressively today. This title also secures my place in the US Open, and I still believe there’s plenty more to come from me.”
Tournament director Volker Jäcke praised the high quality of this year’s event, highlighting the strong international field, the presence of numerous former ATP Tour players and Grand Slam competitors, and the impressive performances of the German youngsters, with three home players reaching the quarter-finals. He also welcomed the successful debut of the Electronic Line Calling Live system.
BRAWO Open organisers also celebrated a record-breaking week off the court. According to managing director Markus Beese, the tournament attracted 35,085 spectators, featured seven sold-out days and combined top-class tennis with evening entertainment, including concerts by Die Prinzen and Dieter Bohlen.
The 33rd edition of the BRAWO Open is scheduled to take place from 1-11 July 2027, promising another week of elite tennis and entertainment in Braunschweig.
