Three Spanish players remain in contention for a place in the main draw of the 2026 Open Ciudad de Pozoblanco Memorial Fabian Dorado after advancing to the final round of qualifying at the ATP Challenger 75 event.
Madrid’s Bernardo Munk produced one of the day’s standout performances, rallying from a set down to defeat sixth seed John Echeverria 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4. Munk will now face Malaysia’s Mitsuki Wei Kang Leong for a place in the main draw.
Mario Gonzalez and Izan Almazan also kept Spanish hopes alive after impressive victories. Gonzalez defeated India’s S D Prajwal Dev in straight sets and will next meet second seed Massimo Giunta of Italy, who battled back from a set down to overcome Spain’s Alberto Barroso.
Almazan delivered one of the biggest comebacks of the day. Trailing Colombia’s Samuel Heredia 6-1, 4-2, the Spaniard won ten of the final eleven games to complete a remarkable 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 turnaround and book his place in the final qualifying round.
The opening day also featured several surprises. Top seed Sergio Callejon was eliminated by Bulgaria’s rising star Iliyan Radulov, a former world No. 4 junior, while eighth seed Mae Malige of France fell to Colombia’s Samuel Alejandro Linde Palacios in straight sets. Radulov will now face former world No. 40 Ilya Ivashka in one of the most anticipated matches of the final qualifying round.
