AMSTETTEN/STARNBERG, July 17, 2026
The final main draw wildcard for the LADIES OPEN Amstetten powered by SPORTLAND Niederösterreich has been awarded to one of the most exciting prospects in international women’s tennis. Just 15 years old, Germany’s Ida Wobker will make her debut in Amstetten as one of the brightest rising stars on the World Tennis Tour.
The Osnabrück native has attracted international attention for several years. Currently ranked world No. 798, Wobker is already world No. 18 in the ITF junior rankings and has captured five ITF junior titles. In July 2025, at just 14 years of age, she became the youngest player inside the WTA Top 1000 before claiming her first professional ITF title only a few weeks later in Dublin.
Aggressive style inspired by Sabalenka and Alcaraz
Wobker is known for her fearless attacking game. She names Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz as her biggest inspirations, and her own game reflects the same aggressive mindset. Despite competing around the world, she continues to attend the Ratsgymnasium in Osnabrück, balancing her education with an increasingly demanding professional tennis schedule. Earlier this year, she even skipped the Australian Open junior event to focus on her school commitments.
She also made headlines during this year’s Wimbledon junior tournament, where she was defaulted in the opening round at 0-6, 5-5 after a racket thrown in frustration bounced into the stands. Under Wimbledon regulations, such incidents can lead to disqualification if spectators are considered to have been put at risk.
Guided by Barbara Rittner
Wobker’s development is supported by one of Germany’s most respected figures in women’s tennis. Former world No. 24, long-time German Fed Cup captain and 1991 Wimbledon junior champion Barbara Rittner serves as her mentor through the management agency AceIn.
By awarding the wildcard to Wobker, the organizers once again continue their tradition of giving emerging international talents an opportunity to compete at a high level early in their careers. Several former participants have gone on to make major breakthroughs shortly after appearing in Amstetten, including last year’s quarterfinalist Nikola Bartunkova, now ranked WTA No. 43, and Lilli Tagger, who has climbed to No. 83 in the world.
Now, Ida Wobker will have the chance to take the next step in her promising career when she competes at the US$100,000 LADIES OPEN Amstetten.
