The qualifying competition at the World Tennis Tour W100 DISA Gran Canaria-Maspalomas 2026 concluded on Monday, with eight players earning their places in the main draw after a series of impressive performances at Club Conde Jackson Tennis Maspalomas.
Top seed Berfu Cengiz of Turkey needed less than an hour to book her place in the main draw, cruising past Russia’s Anna Shkutova 6-0, 6-1. Second seed Joelle Lilly Sophie Steur of Germany also advanced in commanding fashion, defeating Italy’s Camilla Zanolini 6-3, 6-1.
Third seed Laura Hietaranta of Finland overcame a competitive opening set against Italy’s Eleonora Alvisi before pulling away for a 6-4, 6-1 victory. France’s Emma Lene produced one of the standout performances of the day, eliminating fourth seed Laura Mair of Italy 6-2, 6-0.
Home favorite Gabriela Paun delighted the local crowd by claiming one of the coveted qualifying spots with a spirited 6-4, 6-3 victory over Dutch player Demi Tran. The Gran Canaria native stayed composed throughout a closely contested encounter to seal her place in the main draw.
Italy’s Isabella Maria Serban came through the longest match of the day, defeating compatriot Sofia Rocchetti 7-6, 6-2. After a tightly contested first set decided in a tiebreak, Serban took control in the second to complete the win after more than two hours on court.
Elsewhere, France’s Sara Cakarevic advanced with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Elena Milovanovic, while Germany’s Gina Marie Dittmann secured her place in the main draw by defeating Spain’s Lorena Solar 6-1, 6-2.
With the qualifying competition complete, the main draw gets underway on Tuesday, featuring an impressive field of established stars and former champions. Austria’s Julia Grabher, the 2023 champion, returns to Maspalomas alongside Dutch veteran Arantxa Rus, a three-time tournament winner and last year’s runner-up. Also in action will be Egypt’s former world No. 31 Mayar Sherif, runner-up in 2021, and Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska, the 2022 finalist and 2020 Roland Garros semifinalist, who reached a career-high ranking of world No. 29.
