The 33rd edition of the Internazionali di Tennis San Marino Open is set for a blockbuster Tuesday, with a packed schedule of 14 singles matches and one doubles encounter at the ATP Challenger 125 event held on the clay courts of the Centro Cassa di Risparmio in Montecchio.
Following the conclusion of the qualifying competition, Italy’s representation in the main draw has grown to 11 players. Enrico Dalla Valle and Tommaso Compagnucci secured their places through qualifying, while Francesco Forti received a lucky loser spot after narrowly falling to Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas in a dramatic final qualifying match lasting more than three hours.
Top seed Facundo Diaz Acosta of Argentina, already a four-time Challenger champion in 2026, begins his campaign against qualifier Compagnucci. Fourth seed Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia, who moved into the draw following the withdrawal of Serbia’s Laslo Djere with a wrist injury, opens play against Czech qualifier Michael Vrbensky.
One of the highlights of the day will be the all-Italian clash between Marco Cecchinato and Franco Agamenone. Cecchinato, runner-up at this month’s ATP Challenger in Milan, captured the first Challenger title of his career in San Marino in 2013 before rising to a career-high World No. 16 and reaching the semifinals of Roland Garros in 2018.
Another Italian derby will headline the evening session, as sixth seed Andrea Pellegrino takes on 20-year-old wild card Carlo Alberto Caniato. Pellegrino arrives in San Marino after an impressive season that included a run to the fourth round at the Internazionali d’Italia in Rome and successful qualification for Roland Garros.
Elsewhere, qualifier Enrico Dalla Valle faces Croatia’s Mili Poljicak, while lucky loser Francesco Forti meets Argentina’s Federico Coria. Wild card Jacopo Vasami takes on Juan Pablo Varillas, and eighth seed Francesco Maestrelli opens against Austria’s Lukas Neumayer. Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro, who came through qualifying, rounds off the action on Court 3 against Spain’s David Jorda Sanchis.
Court 2 features an intriguing line-up including Pedro Martinez against seventh seed Hugo Dellien, third seed Vilius Gaubas against recent Segovia Challenger champion Luka Pavlovic.
The first main-draw winners were confirmed on Monday. Bolivia’s Juan Carlos Prado Angelo defeated Spain’s Daniel Rincon in three sets to reach the second round, while fifth seed Alexandre Muller, the 2024 San Marino champion, eased past Italy’s Stefano Napolitano in straight sets.
