BJK CUP Media Release, July 31, 2026

The 2026 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals will feature an impressive collection of the world’s top talent when the season-ending team event takes place from September 22 to 27 at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre in China.

Host nation China will be spearheaded by Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen, who will lead her team into a quarterfinal clash against defending champions Italy on September 24. The Italians, chasing a third consecutive Billie Jean King Cup title, will rely on Jasmine Paolini and veteran Sara Errani, the pair that captured Olympic women’s doubles gold in Paris.

Czechia, one of the tournament favorites, boasts an outstanding lineup featuring Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova, finalist Karolina Muchova, Marie Bouzkova, and doubles specialist Katerina Siniakova. They open the Finals against Great Britain, whose squad is led by Katie Boulter after reaching the semifinals in three of the past four editions.

Kazakhstan once again turns to world No. 2 Elena Rybakina as it faces Spain in the quarterfinals. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro heads the Spanish team, while Ukraine hopes to build on last year’s breakthrough semifinal appearance behind Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk. Belgium’s challenge will be led by promising youngsters Hanne Vandewinkel and Jeline Vandromme.

Five-time Billie Jean King Cup champion and 1994 Wimbledon winner Conchita Martinez will return as Tournament Director for a fourth consecutive year.

“This is an amazing line-up, with some of the world’s best players ready to give everything to be crowned world champions,” Martinez said. “Representing your nation is one of the proudest moments in any athlete’s career, and I am sure that every player competing in Shenzhen will relish the opportunity to challenge for this coveted title. Fans in Shenzhen embraced this competition in 2025 and we are determined that this year will be even better.”

Each tie will consist of two singles matches followed by a doubles rubber, with all matches played as best-of-three tiebreak sets. Nations are permitted to make up to four changes to their nominated squads until one day before the tournament begins.
