Marvin Moeller is one win away from a title on home soil. The Hamburg native reached the final of the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup on Saturday with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 victory over Croatia’s Matej Dodig.
Playing in front of a strong home crowd on Centre Court at the Rothenbaum Tennis Complex, Moeller broke Dodig three times and sealed victory after one hour and 27 minutes to book his first Challenger final in his hometown.
“I got off to a good start, just like in my previous match, and played some solid service games, which allowed me to win in the end,” Moeller said afterwards. “It’s obviously very special to play here in Hamburg on this court. It’s great to see so many people coming out. Playing in front of friends and family is always something special.”
Moeller will face Czech qualifier Jan Kumstat in Sunday’s final. The 19-year-old, ranked No. 336 in the ATP Rankings, defeated Brazil’s Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida, No. 277, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in a hard-fought semifinal lasting more than two hours.
Kumstat has now won 11 consecutive matches after claiming his maiden ATP Challenger title earlier this month on home soil in Liberec. The 19-year-old from Prostejov is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in Czech tennis. He reached No. 3 in the ITF junior rankings and won the 2025 Australian Open boys’ doubles title alongside US-American Maxwell Exsted.
Asked about the key to his game, the almost two-metre tall teenager had a simple answer: “The serve.” He added: “I also feel equally comfortable with my forehand and backhand.”
Kumstat has beaten Möller in both of their previous meetings on the ITF World Tennis Tour. But Sunday’s final will offer the Hamburg native the chance to turn the tables and claim his second Challenger title of the season after triumphing in Troyes, France.
“You always have a lot of goals at the beginning of a tournament. When you reach the final, of course you want to win it,” Moeller said.
Kalender/Serdarusic triumph in doubles
Admir Kalender and Nino Serdarusic continued their impressive run in Germany by claiming the doubles title at the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup on Saturday. The third-seeded Croatian duo defeated German wild cards Niels McDonald and Jannik Opitz 6-3, 6-4 in the final on Centre Court.
Having already lifted the trophy in Hagen last week, Kalender and Serdarusic once again proved their chemistry and experience to secure their third title together.

“We were probably the more experienced team that had played together more often,” Serdarusic said after the match. “We have been playing very well over the past few months and are well coordinated on court.”
The victory earned the Croatians €4,540 in prize money and 75 ATP Rankings points.
“The chemistry between us is simply right,” Kalender added. “We also have a lot of friends in Germany and always feel very comfortable here. It was a great experience to play the final on this wonderful Centre Court.”
