What a home event, what a final: Marvin Moeller (ATP No. 319) gave the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup a memorable Sunday at the Rothenbaum Tennis Complex. In front of a well-filled Centre Court, the Hamburg native faced Czech qualifier Jan Kumstat (ATP No. 336) in the ATP Challenger 75 final but ultimately came up short.

In a thrilling contest, the 19-year-old from Prostejov fired 20 aces and saved a match point before securing a 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 victory after more than two and a half hours.

“It was such a tough match. Marvin is playing extremely well,” Kumstat said afterwards. “In the end, the serve was decisive and I was perhaps just a little bit better.”

For the teenager, who won the Australian Open junior doubles title in 2025, it was his second Challenger-level title. Earlier this month, he had already triumphed on home soil in Liberec.

“I’m very happy with these successes. I’m feeling very good and, of course, I want to keep going like this,” said Kumstat, who collected €15,510 in prize money and 75 ATP Ranking points. There will be little time to celebrate, however. The Czech headed straight to his next tournament in Prague by car on Sunday evening.

Despite missing out on the title, Moeller can look back on an outstanding week in front of his home crowd and the biggest final of his career so far. The 27-year-old Hamburg native thanked his parents, who watched the match from the stands, as well as his coaching team and his girlfriend.

After claiming his maiden Challenger title in Troyes, France, exactly one month ago, Moeller had been hoping to add another trophy at his home event. As runner-up, the Hamburg native received €8,760 in prize money and 44 valuable ATP Ranking points. On Monday, Moeller will rise to a new career-high ranking of No. 270 in the world.

Tournament Organisers Delighted with First Edition

Tournament director Björn Kroll was highly satisfied with the inaugural Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup at the Rothenbaum. A total of 4,900 spectators attended the matches at Hallerstraße during the week.

“We are very happy with the week and will definitely make every effort to continue the tournament at this location. In what form remains to be seen,” said Kroll.
