World Tennis Media Release, August 17, 2026

Roland Garros champion Alexander Zverev and Top 10 stars Felix Auger-Aliassime, Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz are all set to represent their nations in September’s Davis Cup Qualifiers 2nd Round – with Final 8 places on the line across the world.

Zverev leads a German team who take on Croatia in Halle, and is joined in the squad by Yannick Hanfmann, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz. Croatia are led by veteran Marin Cilic, with Dino Prizmic, Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic completing the line-up.

Auger-Aliassime, the world No. 4, will spearhead Canada’s bid to reach the Final 8, alongside Gabriel Diallo, Liam Draxl and Duncan Chan. Their opponents in Quebec City, France, have also named a strong squad, with Arthur Fils and Arthur Rinderknech leading the away team.

Shelton and Fritz will travel to Prague alongside Tommy Paul and Christian Harrison, with the USA facing Czechia in a re-match of a 2025 Qualifiers 2nd Round tie. The Czechs won that tie in Delray Beach and are at full strength again with Jiri Lehecka, Jakub Mensik and Tomas Machac all included in Tomas Berdych’s squad.

Among the other players selected for their nations are Wimbledon semi-finalist Arthur Fery, who is part of Great Britain’s team for their tie at home to Ecuador, and world No. 11 Rafael Jodar, who will be Spain’s top player for an away clash against Chile.

What is at stake?

The seven winning teams in the Qualifiers 2nd Round will join last year’s world champions Italy at the Davis Cup Final 8 in Bologna in November, where they will compete for the chance to lift the coveted trophy for their countries. The seven losing nations will compete in the 2027 Qualifiers 1st Round.

Ties will be played as best-of-five matches, with two singles matches on day one, followed by the doubles match and the two reverse singles matches on day two. All matches are played as best-of-three tiebreak sets.

A further 26 home-or-away Davis Cup ties are also taking place on 18-20 September – 13 ties in World Group I and 13 ties in World Group II. Team announcements for the World Group I and World Group II ties will be made on Tuesday 8 September.
