Brazilian teenager Luis Guto Miguel, the current world No. 1 junior, has received a wild card into the main draw of the Copa Internacional de Tenis, an ATP Challenger 75 event that will be held from September 27 to October 4 at the Graciosa Country Club in Curitiba, Brazil.
The French Open junior champion and US Open junior runner-up will compete in Curitiba for the first time since officially ending his junior career and turning his full attention to the professional circuit.
“I was very happy to receive the invitation to play the Curitiba Challenger, and I would like to thank the organisers for the opportunity. It will be a special tournament for me because it is the first one I will play 100 per cent as a professional, after ending my junior career,” Miguel said.
“Playing in Brazil is always very special, close to the crowd, my family and everyone who follows my career. I’m very excited about this new phase and hope to have a great week in Curitiba.”
Miguel will face one of the strongest Curitiba Challenger fields in recent years. Among the confirmed Brazilian players are Thiago Seyboth Wild, Gustavo Heide, Felipe Meligeni Alves, Matheus Pucinelli and Joao Lucas Reis.
Seyboth Wild arrives in Curitiba full of confidence after winning the ATP Challenger 125 in Genoa last Sunday. The result lifted the Brazilian to No. 141 in the ATP Rankings. The former world No. 60 will return to Curitiba looking to continue his strong run of form.
Reis is also enjoying a positive period. The Pernambuco native reached the final of the ATP Challenger 100 in Tulln, Austria, last Sunday and climbed to No. 220 in the world rankings.
The entry list also features several international names, including Argentina’s Francisco Comesana, currently ranked No. 119 in the world and the highest-ranked player on the list. Other notable entries include Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien, Chile’s Tomas Barrios Vera, Argentina’s Federico Coria, Juan Bautista Torres and Genaro Olivieri, Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas and Dominican Republic’s Nick Hardt.
The Copa Internacional de Tenis was named the ATP Challenger 75 Tournament of the Year in 2025, earning an unprecedented honour for a Brazilian tournament in the category. The award recognised the quality of the event and the work carried out by the organisers in partnership with the Graciosa Country Club.
The tournament will be played on clay, with a total prize purse of $107,000 and 75 ATP Ranking points awarded to the singles champion. The singles main draw will feature 32 players, while the doubles competition will consist of 16 teams.
The recent history of the event also highlights Curitiba’s importance as a stepping stone for rising players. The tournament’s last two champions, Adolfo Daniel Vallejo of Paraguay in 2025 and Portugal’s Jaime Faria in 2024, have subsequently broken into the Top 100. Vallejo is currently ranked No. 60, while Faria sits at No. 72.
Dellien, the 2023 champion who returns to Curitiba this year, has also reached a career-high ranking of No. 66.
For Miguel, meanwhile, the tournament represents the beginning of a new chapter in his professional career — and his first opportunity to compete on home soil as a full-time professional.
