The WTA announced today Aryna Sabalenka has become the second singles player to secure her place at the WTA Finals Indian Wells and in November will step onto tennis’ ultimate stage for the sixth consecutive season.
Sabalenka joins PIF WTA World No.1 Elena Rybakina in qualifying for the prestigious season-ending tournament (who secured her place earlier this month), with the pair contesting the showpiece title match at last season’s WTA Finals with Rybakina narrowly earning the victory.
Overall this will be Sabalenka’s sixth consecutive appearance at the WTA Finals where she has reached one further final, finishing as runner-up to Caroline Garcia in 2022. Since 2003, only Agnieszka Radwanska has registered six singles WTA Finals appearances in a row (2011-16).
Aryna Sabalenka’s journey to qualification has seen her reach an impressive five finals this year on the WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz, winning back-to-back WTA 1000 titles at the BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells) and the Miami Open presented by Itaú in addition to the WTA 500 Brisbane International at the start of the season.
She also posted consistent results across the Grand Slams to bolster her qualification hopes, reaching finals at the Australian Open and US Open and making a quarterfinal run at Roland-Garros.
The WTA Finals Indian Wells features the Top 8 singles and doubles teams on the PIF Race to the WTA Finals Leaderboard (with the 8th spot going to the singles player and doubles team that have won a Grand Slam if ranked No.8 to No.20).
