“We are very happy to once again host the Challenger in Guayaquil, a tournament with a long-standing international tradition that has undoubtedly provided a springboard for many players who have gone on to reach the world’s Top 10 after competing on our courts. Just to name a few, Casper Ruud reached world No. 2, Juan Martin Del Potro No. 3 and Kei Nishikori No. 4,” said Andres Gomez.
Another highlight was confirmed by tournament organiser Luis Adrian Morejon, who announced that ESPN will broadcast both singles semi-finals and the final live for the eighth consecutive year.
“This allows Guayaquil and Ecuador to strengthen their presence on the international tennis map,” Morejon stated.
This year’s tournament also marks the beginning of a new chapter with the introduction of a renewed visual identity. Denisse Melgarejo, Brand Analyst of Sports Management at Banco Guayaquil, explained the significance of the change.
“This year marks the beginning of a new stage with the renewal of the tournament’s visual identity. At Banco Guayaquil, we have been working alongside the organisers to reflect the event’s evolution and connect with new audiences without losing the essence and tradition that have defined it for more than two decades,” she said.
The countdown has now begun, with players already practising at the Guayaquil Tennis Club ahead of Sunday’s qualifying competition. Further arrivals are expected as the players prepare for the main draw, which gets underway on Monday, October 26.
Brazilian official Ricardo Reis will serve as the ATP supervisor for this year’s Challenger event.
