COSTA DO SAUIPE/STARNBERG, October 28, 2026
The second edition of the Costa do Sauipe Open will feature a strong main-draw lineup, combining established names with promising young talents. Alongside three current ATP Top 100 players – Argentina’s Roman Andres Burruchaga, his compatriots Facundo Diaz Acosta and Camilo Ugo Carabelli – six other competitors have previously broken into the world’s Top 100.
The experienced group includes Italy’s Marco Cecchinato, Brazil’s Thiago Seyboth Wild, Argentina’s Francisco Comesana, Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien, Chile’s Tomas Barrios Vera and Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas.
One of the biggest names in the field is Cecchinato, a former world No. 16 and 2018 Roland Garros semifinalist. The Italian made headlines at the French Open that year by reaching the last four, highlighted by a stunning quarterfinal victory over Novak Djokovic. He has also claimed three ATP Tour singles titles.
Brazilian favourite Seyboth Wild brings considerable experience to the tournament as well. The former world No. 58 captured his maiden ATP Tour title at the 2020 Chile Open in Santiago. Three years later, he produced one of the biggest upsets of his career by defeating then-world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev in the first round of Roland Garros. After collecting four Challenger titles this season, the Brazilian will be looking to continue his upward momentum on home soil.
Comesana is another player with notable achievements at the highest level. The former world No. 54 made an immediate impact on his Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon in 2024, defeating then-world No. 6 Andrey Rublev. In 2025, he reached the semifinals of the Rio Open, further establishing himself on the ATP Tour.
Dellien, a former world No. 64, is among Bolivia’s most successful tennis players. A regular title contender on the ATP Challenger Tour, he also reached the semifinals of the ATP 250 event in Cordoba in 2023. Bolivia’s rising star Juan Prado Angelo will also be part of the Costa do Sauipe Open. The young talent, who reached the boys’ singles final at Roland Garros in 2023, is looking to make his mark and compete for the valuable 125 ranking points awarded to the champion.
Barrios Vera reached a career-high world ranking of No. 93 in January 2024. A former junior world No. 5, the Chilean has built a solid Challenger career, collecting seven titles in different countries and gaining experience in Grand Slam main draws.
Completing the list of former Top 100 players is Varillas. The Peruvian climbed to a career-high No. 60 in 2023, the same year he enjoyed his best Grand Slam performance by reaching the fourth round at Roland Garros. His memorable run included three consecutive five-set victories.
The established professionals will share the spotlight with Brazil’s next generation. Luis Guto Miguel, who won the boys’ singles title at Roland Garros in 2026, is among the confirmed entrants. The 17-year-old from Goias also captured the Wimbledon boys’ doubles crown and finished runner-up in boys’ singles at the US Open, as he continues his transition to the professional circuit. Fellow Brazilians Gustavo Heide and Joao Lucas Reis da Silva will also compete in the main draw.
The Costa do Sauipe Open will take place from November 1 to 8 at the Costa do Sauipe Resorts tennis complex in Bahia. As the only ATP Challenger 125 tournament staged in Brazil, the event will offer a total prize money pool of US$225,000, with the singles champion earning 125 ATP Ranking points.
