COSTA DO SAUIPE/STARNBERG, November 7, 2026
The Costa do Sauipe Open, an ATP Challenger 125 tournament and the biggest Challenger event in Brazil, confirmed its singles semifinalists and doubles finalists on Friday. Held on the clay courts of Costa do Sauipe Resorts in Bahia, the tournament offers a total prize purse of US$225,000, with the singles champion earning 125 ATP Ranking points.
Brazil’s hopes in the singles competition rest on Thiago Seyboth Wild, who booked his place in the semifinals with a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory over compatriot Joao Lucas Reis.
The Brazilian will now face top seed Facundo Diaz Acosta of Argentina, who lived up to his billing by defeating Italian Marco Cecchinato, a former world No. 16 and Roland Garros semifinalist, 6-4, 6-4.

The other semifinal will feature second seed Camilo Ugo Carabelli, also from Argentina, against Peru’s Gonzalo Bueno.
Bueno secured his place in the last four with an impressive 6-1, 6-2 win over Argentine Lautaro Midon in just 80 minutes. Carabelli also advanced in straight sets, defeating Bolivia’s Juan Carlos Prado Angelo 6-2, 6-3.
The singles semifinals will take place on Saturday on the centre court, starting at 3 p.m. local time. The doubles final is scheduled to follow the singles matches. All four singles semifinalists are guaranteed 35 ATP ranking points.
Seyboth Wild was pleased with his improved performance compared to his previous match and expects another tough encounter against Diaz Acosta, whom he has faced several times on the tour.
“I’m very happy with today’s victory. I played much better than yesterday, when I started at a very high level but then had a very poor set. I played very well in the first set, and Joao did too. It was decided by small details. In the second set, I got ahead and managed to make the most of my advantage. I’m very happy to be in the semifinals.
“I’ve played Acosta many times, but it will be another tough match. He is having a good season, just like me. At this stage of the tournament, everything changes. There are more points and a better ranking position at stake, but you have to go out there, keep your head in the right place and treat it as just another match,” said the Brazilian.
Carabelli, meanwhile, expressed his satisfaction at finally getting the opportunity to compete in the tournament after missing last year’s edition.
“I couldn’t come last year, and this was a tournament I really wanted to play. The venue is beautiful, everything is close by and the tournament has been very well organised. Reaching the semifinals makes me very happy. I played very well today, and the match was quick, which gives me more time to rest before tomorrow,” said the Argentine.
Bueno also celebrated his progress, particularly given the difficulties he has faced this season due to a back injury.
“I’m very happy with the result. Today was a match in which I did everything right, and it is the result of the work I’ve been doing. I had a back injury that affected my season quite badly. I couldn’t do anything, but thanks to my team, I’m here and feeling good. I’ve been improving with every match, and reaching this semifinal towards the end of the season makes me very happy,” the Peruvian said.
Top seed Diaz Acosta also reflected on his campaign and the physical demands of a busy season in which he has played more matches than any other player.
“I’m very happy with this season, but also very tired. I’ve been the player who has played the most matches this year. That’s a good thing, but it also takes its toll. This is my last tournament of the year, so reaching the semifinals is a great achievement. Hopefully, I can keep winning and finish the year with another good result,” the Argentine said.
