MANERBIO, August 28, 2016
Leonardo Mayer captured the title of the 40th edition of the €42,500 Internazionali di Tennis Manerbio. The fifth seed from Argentina defeated Filip Krajinovic in Sunday’s final 7-6, 7-5.
Mayer sent down six aces, winning 79 per cent of his first service points. He broke his opponent’s serve two times to seal victory in one hour and 33 minutes.
It was Mayer’s second win over the Serbian, following his victory in the 2015 Davis Cup. The 29-year-old clinched his ninth title on the ATP Challenger Tour, his first since 2013 in Guayaquil. He takes away €6,150 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points.
Mayer will be at number 117 in the world on Monday, close to the top 100.
“This is my first, next goal, to return to play in the main draw of all the Grand Slam tournaments. Although the main thing is to stay healthy in order to go up more and more the world rankings,” Mayer said.
