STOCKTON, October 7, 2016

Eight players remain in the singles draw at the inaugural $100,000 Stockton ATP Challenger held at the prestigious Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center on the campus of the University of the Pacific.

The last remaining qualifiers were knocked out Thursday with Frank Dancevic taking down Brydan Klein 6-4, 6-4, while Salvatore Caruso was defeated by Michael Mmoh, the 2016 Tiburon Challenger singles champion, 6-3, 6-2.

Noah Rubin was victorious over Belgian Joris De Loore, making Rubin the fifth US-American to advance to the quarterfinals in this year’s tournament. Rubin, who earned a spot in the main draw of the 2016 Australian Open for the first time after clinching the USTA Pro Circuit’s Australian Open Wild Card Challenge, battled De Loore in three sets winning the first 7-5 before losing the second 6-3. Rubin would quickly take control of the third set claiming victory 6-1. The encounter lasted one hour and 38 minutes.

In afternoon doubles play, Sem Verbeek and Jose Chamba Gomez continued their journey in Stockton as they advance to the semi-finals ousting the lone US-American team of Bjorn Fratangelo and Tommy Paul. Verbeek and Chamba Gomez will face the team of Matt Reid and John-Patrick Smith from Australia who are coming off a doubles championship held in Tiburon last week.
