LINZ, October 16, 2016
Dominika Cibulkova won her third title of 2016 and qualified for the WTA Finals thanks to a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Viktorija Golubic at the Generali Ladies Linz on Sunday.
The second seed from Slovakia, who entered the main draw with a wild card, saved seven of the eight break points she faced, capitalizing on three of her own to prevail in one hour and 43 minutes.
“It means a world to me,” Cibulkova told in her post match conference. “It has never been a goal for me to play in Singapore but after the year, in which I have played well and consistent, I just thought that I will have my chance. It was a big challenge for me coming into this tournament to know that only reaching the final can put me into this position but I withstood the pressure.”
Earlier the day, Kiki Bertens from the Netherlands and Johanna Larsson from Sweden defeated Anna-Lena Grönefeld from Germany and Czech Kveta Peschke 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 to claim the doubles title. The final lasted one hour and 16 minutes.
