Dominic Thiem and Grigor Dimitrov will participate in the second edition of Garanti Koza Sofia Open, held from 5 to 12 February 2017 at the Arena Armeec. Thiem is currently number 9 in Emirates ATP Rankings. He won four ATP tournaments this season and made the semifinals of “Rolland Garros” in Paris. The 23 years old Austrian showed great talent and impresses with one-handed backhand. He is considered for one of the best players among the #NextGen players.
“I am waiting impatiently to play in Sofia. I know – it is a beautiful and there will be great tennis fans. 2016 has been perfect for me and I hope I will go on the same way in 2017. Sofia Open is a really important tournament and I hope I will be able to show my best tennis there”, said Thiem.
The best Bulgarian tennis player found his way back to Top 20. He played really well in Asia and made it to the semifinals of Stockholm Open. He lost the final in Beijing to Andy Murray, but before that he defeated stars like Rafael Nadal, Milos Raonic and Lucas Pouille. Previously – he has been in Top 10 in the world during his career and played semifinal of Wimbledon.

The ex-tournament director of Australian Open and Hopman Cup Paul McNamee will take the duty of Garanti Koza Sofia Open tournament director. He said: “Thiem and Dimitrov are the future of the world men’s tennis. We are excited that they will show their great talent in Sofia. It is always exciting for the fans when one of the tournament stars is a local guy.”
