The defending champion of the BMW Open by FWU AG, Philipp Kohlschreiber, is the first player to be confirmed for the next edition of the ATP 250 event held at the MTTC Iphitos in Munich from 29 April to 7 May 2017.

“It’s my home tournament and also the one I like most. I captured the title here three times and want to defend it in 2017. The atmosphere and the spectators in Munich are unique,” told Kohlschreiber, who lifted the trophies here in 2007, 2012 and 2016. The 33-year-old German also finished runner-up to Tommy Haas in 2013 and to Andy Murray in 2015, when the new world No.1 clinched his first title on clay.

“It’s great to have Philipp here again. The crowd loves him and I am sure that a lot of fans will be excited to hear the news. His early commitment highlights that the BMW Open by FWU AG are one of the most important clay court tournaments in the calendar,” stated the tournament’s organizer Michael Mronz.

“Munich is one of the top-tournaments on the tour due to the city’s altitude and the excellent organisation,” Kohlschreiber added. The 102nd edition of the clay court event in Munich will have a total prize money of more than €500,000.
