ANDRIA, November 26, 2016
Matteo Berrettini and Luca Vanni will square off in an all-Italian-final on Sunday at the €42,500 Andria E Castel Del Monte Challenger, held at the local Palasport Arena.
Berrettini continued his winning streak with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Egor Gerasimov from Belarus. The 20-year-old wild card, who knocked out second seed Marco Chiudinelli and Spanish veteran Tommy Robredo en-route to the semi-finals, sent down 15 aces, saved all of the three break points he faced and broke serve with his lone opportunity to reach his maiden title match on the ATP Challenger Tour after one hour and 13 minutes.
Vanni beat top seed Sergiy Stakhovsky from the Ukraine 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. The 31-year-old from Foiano della Chiana won 78 per cent of his first service points and 85 of the total 159 points played to prevail in one hour and 46 minutes. Vanni is looking to lift his third Challenger title of the season, following his triumphs in Segovia and Brescia. The pair will meet for the first time.
