ORTISEI, December 10, 2016
Deborah Chiesa and Laura-Iona Andrei will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the $10,000 Raiffeisen ITF Val Gardena held at the Tennis Club Ortisei.
The third seed from Italy cruised past Caroline Werner of Germany, winning 6-2, 6-1. Chiesa fired seven aces, didn’t face a break point and converted five of her own to advance in only 48 minutes.
Andrei defeated fifth favourite Anna-Giulia Remondina 7-5, 7-6. The 28-year-old from Romania won 75 per cent of her first service points and broke serve four times to secure victory in one hour and 42 minutes.
Chiesa and Andrei will meet for the second time with the Romanian leading 1-0 in head to head records. The World No. 674 beat the Italian en route to her title win in Cordenons last week. Andrei eyes to lift her second trophy of the season. Chiesa could win her maiden singles title on the ITF Pro Circuit.
Later the day, Andrei and Remondina teamed up to capture the doubles title. The pair beat Ksenia Palkina Ulukan from Kyrgyzstan and Sarah Rebecca Sekulic of Germany 6-2, 6-3. The encounter lasted 54 minutes.
