Jack Sock claimed his second ATP World Tour crown, adding to his 2015 Houston title and improving to 2-4 in tour-level finals. The fourth seed from the United States defeated Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 in Saturday’s final of the ASB Classic in Auckland.

Sock fired 12 aces and won 80 per cent of his first service points to seal victory in one hour and 56 minutes, becoming the first US-American to claim the title in New Zealand since John Isner in 2014.

“Anytime you can take a title, it feels really good. I’ve had it once before. I’ve had chances. I’ve lost in a few finals. Winning the whole tournament is definitely a massive confidence booster,” told Sock.

“I was able to put in a lot of work in the off-season and I think it paid off. I was able to make lots of gains and lots of strides forward. I think it really showed this week.”

Sousa did not a drop a set en-route to his eighth career tour-level final and is now 2-6.

“I think I didn’t play a great match. He was very confident and he serves very well, and I think that was the key of the match,” Sousa said.

Matkowski Qureshi Take Doubles Crown

Fourth seeds Marcin Matkowski and Assam-Ul-Haq Qureshi top Jonathan Erlich and Scott Lipsky in a Match Tie-Break, rallying 1-6, 6-2, 10-3 to clinch their first team title in 61 minutes.

“Obviously it was a great partnership for us so we couldn’t ask for anything else and hopefully we’ll have good luck in Melbourne for each of us and then we can play some more tournaments after,” the 35-year-old Matkowski told, who is now 18-28 in ATP World Tour finals.

“I’m really happy with our performances throughout the week and especially the way we found our way back into the matches and to win the title. I’m really happy and proud with the way we handled the pressure and the situations in all of the matches,” said Qureshi, who improves to 12-16. As champions, they will split $24,380 and 250 Emirates ATP Rankings points.
