MELBOURNE, January 20, 2017
Mischa Zverev fought past Malek Jaziri on Friday to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open. The World No. 50 from Germany won 71 per cent of his first service points and hit 34 winner to seal a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.
With Mischa and younger brother Alex both reaching the last 32 at Melbourne Park, they’re the first brothers to arrive at the third round of the same slam since Byron and Wayne Black in 1998.
Mischa will next take on World No. 1 Andy Murray, who edged past Sam Querrey from the United States on Hisense Arena, winning 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 in just under two hours of play.
“I thought I did pretty good today. The start of the match was hard. Sam came out serving big. He was really going for his shots. Yeah, the end of that first set was important. He had a breakpoint at 4-3. When I saved that and broke the next game, momentum was with me. Started to serve a bit better, put a lot more returns back in play after that. Played some good stuff,” Murray was pleased with his performance.
