MUNICH, January 27, 2017

In less than 100 days, the ATP World Tour will return to Munich for the 102nd edition of the International Tennis Championships of Bavaria. The tournament announced Thursday a total financial commitment of €540,307, which represents a new record prize money for the 28 players, competing in the BMW Open by FWU from 29 April to 7 May 2017 at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos.

Germany’s top-ranked players, Alexander Zverev and Philipp Kohlschreiber, have already announced their paritcipation in the ATP 250 event. The entry list will be released by the end of March.

“We will present another great international line-up this year. A lot of Top 20 and Top 30 players are in great shape and have shown that they are able to beat the Top 4. We are looking forward to exciting matches here in Munich,” organizer Michael Mronz stated.

“We are in touch with a couple of players. Most of them concretise their schedule for the clay court swing after the Australian Open. Of course, we also talk to Tommy Haas. Munich is his favourite tournament and we will be very happy, if Tommy considers Munich as part of his tournament schedule during his last season as a pro,” tournament director Patrik Kühnen said.

11 days ahead of the start of the BMW Open by FWU, public tennis courts will open to the public at the Airport in Munich, located between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Passengers, visitors as well as staff member will have the chance to hit some balls and enjoy a range of side events.
