Three seeds and one local player advanced to the semi-finals of the €85,000 Wroclaw Open. The tournament’s number one Paul-Henri Mathieu of France eased past fellow countryman Jonathan Eysseric 6-2, 6-4 on Friday afternoon.
The World No. 99 saved all of the four break points he faced, converting three of his own to secure victory in 61 minutes. Mathieu will next take on Austrian veteran Jürgen Melzer. The eighth seed ousted third favourite Kenny de Schepper, winning 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and eight minutes. Mathieu and Melzer will meet for the fifth time with the Austrian leading 3-1 in head-to-head records.
The tournament’s number four Quentin Halys defeated Petr Michnev from the Czech Republic 7-6, 6-2. The 20-year-old from France sent down 10 aces, winning 83 per cent of his first service points to prevail in one hour and 16 minutes. Halys will face local favourite Michal Przysiezny, who defeated Mirza Basic of Bosnia and Herzegovina 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 14 minutes.
