MADRID, March 10, 2017
The World No.4 Simona Halep and Bulgarian superstar Grigor Dimitrov will both compete for $250,000 winner-take-all prize money cheques at Tie Break Tens Madrid, the quick-fire tie-break tennis tournament which takes place at the Caja Mágica on the evening of Thursday 4th May.
Both Halep and Dimitrov will have their work cut out. Halep joins five-time Grand Slam title winner Maria Sharapova and reigning Roland Garros champion Garbine Muguruza in the women’s field, with Dimitrov up against the men’s World No.5 Kei Nishikori and big-serving local Feliciano López in the men’s event. A further ten players will be announced in the coming weeks to complete the two eight-player fields.
Both events will feature a knockout format, with a prize money pot of $500,000 on offer, split equally between the men’s and women’s winners. $100,000 of the total will go to charity.
The players are excited about the prospect.
Halep said: “Tie-breaks are always tense, and with so many top players playing them in Tie Break Tens, it is going to be a great night in Madrid.”
Dimitrov said: “I love playing tie-breaks. You are under pressure from the very first point and it brings out the best in people. The crowd are guaranteed excitement so it should be a great atmosphere.”
Tie Break Tens arrives in Madrid after successful editions in London and Vienna where home favourites Kyle Edmund and Dominic Thiem won the titles, beating Andy Murray in their respective finals.
Tie Break Tens will be broadcast live on Teledeporte TVE in Spain.
