SAVANNAH, April 4, 2017
The USTA announced The Landings Club in Savannah will host the 9th annual St. Joseph’s/Candler Savannah Challenger, May 1-7 at the Club’s Franklin Creek Tennis Center. The tournament, a USTA Pro Circuit event, is one of the largest tennis events in Georgia and attracts many players preparing to play on clay at the French Open.
New in 2017, the tournament will increase total prize money from $50,000 to $75,000. The field for the Challenger will feature 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. Players ranked as high as No. 50 in the world typically compete in Challenger-level events. The qualifying tournament beginning April 29 will determine the final four singles players in the field.
In 2015, St. Joseph’s/Candler (SJ/C) and The Landings Club, two Savannah-based organizations, partnered together as SJ/C proudly took the helm as the title sponsor of the Savannah Challenger ATP Tennis Tournament.
By joining The Savannah Challenger for the third consecutive year, SJ/C brings sports medicine expertise to the tennis players during the tournament and health care expertise to members of The Landings Club throughout the year. SJ/C is the region’s leader in health care, home to the top specialists and the latest technology.
In 2015, The Landings Club was named Best Tennis Community of the Year in the annual Real Estate Scorecard Bliss Awards and Georgia Community of the Year in 2016.
