Elias Ymer has secured Sweden’s spot in the third round of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group II, defeating Altug Celikbilek 7-6, 6-1, 7-5 to give the guests an unassailable 3-1 lead over Turkey in Antalya.
The 20-year-old from Stockholm was in total control of Sunday’s encounter with the World No. 452, who replaced Turkish number one player Marsel Ilhan. Ymer converted five of his 13 break point opportunities to secure victory in two hours and nine minutes.
In the dead fifth rubber, Christian Lindell overcame Anil Yuksel 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. Lindell sent down eight aces, winning 65 per cent of his first service points to prevail in one hour and 47 minutes.
Sweden will next take on Lithuania, which beat Georgia 3-2 at Mziuri Tennis Club in Tbilisi. The promotion play-off and first meeting between the two nations is going to take place in Sweden from 15 to 17 September 2017.
