BMW Open Ready To Kick Off

The team of the BMW Open is ready for the start of the tournament

MUNICH, April 28, 2017

One day ahead of the start of this year’s BMW Open by FWU, the organizers of the ATP 250 event announced latest news, as final preparations are in full swing.

“The courts look a bit like last year,” organizer Michael Mronz welcomed the media representatives at the snow-covered venue of the MTTC Iphitos on Friday. “A bit of snow combined with a bit of rain,” he added with a smile. Not without good reason the tournament has been nicknamed “toughest clay court event in the world”.

Snow Munich

Snow on Friday in Munich, but the weather wil improve the next days

“We will have a great line-up with Alexander Zverev and Tommy Haas, who both played really well at the Monte-Carlo Masters. Top ranked Gael Monfils is expected to arrive in Munich on Sunday morning. He is scheduled to have his first practice session on centre court at 3pm, maybe together with Alexander Zvevev”, Mronz is looking forward to the start of the event.

“On Saturday, Philipp Kohlschreiber and Tommy Haas will have a practice session on centre court. So, the spectators will not only have the chance to see the qualifying during the opening weekend but also the top stars of the main draw. The qualifying will be of great quality with an original cut-off at World No. 150.”

The third and final wild card into the main draw (following Maximilian Marterer and Casper Ruud) will not be announced before the official main draw ceremony, held on Court 1 on Saturday.

A couple of side-events will also take place during the next nine days. Dustin Brown will play with kids of SOS Children’s Villages, which will receive 10,-€ for every ace hit during the tournament.

Boris Becker will be honoured for his lifetime achievement, receiving the Iphitos Award 2017 by the MTTC Iphitos e. V. as part of this year’s Player’s Night at the BMW Open by FWU on April 30.

Haitian rapper, musician and actor Wyclef Jean will be the main act of the FWU Night on semi-finals Saturday. He is a former member of the hip hop group The Fugees and has won three Grammy Awards for his musical work. On each day of the tournament, spectators will have the chance to win tickets for this exclusive concert.

The final two days are sold out but there are still tickets available for the other days of the tournament. For more information please visit www.bmwopen.de. The weather will also improve. The next three days in Munich will be sunny and mostly dry.
