Pablo Carreno Busta clinched his third title on the ATP World Tour, lifting the trophy of the Millennium Estoril Open on Sunday. The top seed edged past Gilles Muller of Luxembourg, winning 6-2, 7-6.

Carreno Busta won 80 per cent of his second service points and broke serve three times to secure victory in one hour and 22 minutes.

“It’s my first title on clay, so I’m really happy,” said Carreno Busta. “It wasn’t an easy match today because of his serve and also the volley, but I was confident with my serve. He served better in the second set, but I played better in the tie-break.”

By clinching the title without dropping a set, the 25-year-old Spaniard takes away €85,945 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points.

Muller competed in his second final of the season following his triumph in Sydney in January.

“My performance was fine in the second set, but I had a really tough time getting into the match in the first set. He was putting me pressure on me and not missing many balls,” said Muller. “I think I could have played better, but he was just too good.”

Harrison/Venus Claim Doubles Title

Earlier the day, US-American Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus from New Zealand took the doubles title. The pair beat the all-Spanish combination of David Marrero and Tommy Robredo 7-5, 6-2. The encounter lasted 59 minutes.

“Michael has been part of my family for a long time. I’ve known him since I was 11 years old. He’s like a brother. I got married last month and he was my groomsmen. We’ve played doubles together, but not at the tour level, so to win with one of your best friends in the world is special,” Harrison told.

“To be able to do something at this level together is really cool. It’s something I’ll remember forever,” Venus added.
