Defending champion Kiki Bertens from the Netherlands will lead the line-up for the 2017 edition of the NÜRNBERGER Versicherungscup held from 20 to 27 May at the venue of the 1. Fc Nürnberg.
The organizers of the $250,000 WTA International event met the media on Tuesday alongside Germany’s Fed Cup captain Barbara Rittner to talk about the final preparations ahead of the start of the tournament.
The top ranked Dutch will be joined by a couple of local players. Julia Görges, who showed an outstanding performance at Germany’s Fed Cup Play-off tie against the Ukraine in Stuttgart two weeks ago, Porsche Grand Prix champion Laura Siegemund and Mona Barthel, who captured her fourth WTA career title in Prague last weekend.
“All three players are in really good shape and are among the top favourites for the title,” Rittner told. Annika Beck, Carina Witthöft as well as Tatjana Maria, who was awarded a wild card into the main will complete the German group of players.
“However, there will be lot of international competition. I expect an exciting tournament with a couple of surprises,” Rittner added.
