NÜRNBERG, May 22, 2017

Organizers of the WTA Nürnberger Versicherungscup announced Monday evening that 2014 champion Eugenie Bouchard was forced to withdraw from her first round match against Yulia Putintseva due to a right ankle injury, which happened during practice last week.

“I am sorry that I cannot compete this year in Nürnberg. I have great memories of the tournament. I hope to be back next year,” Bouchard told tournament director Sandra Reichel, who added:

“I feel sorry for her but also for her great amount of fans. I hope that she will recover quickly,” Reichel stated.
