Markus Eriksson continues his stunning run of form in Prostejov, by making his first semi-final on the ATP Challenger Tour. The 27-year-old from Sweden, who battled through the qualifying, defeated sixth seed Radu Albot of Moldova on Thursday 7-5, 7-5 to reach the stage of the final four at the €127,000 Unicredit Czech Open.
Eriksson won 76 per cent of his first service points and capitalized on five of his 10 break point chances to prevail in one hour and 57 minutes. The World No. 476, who captured five ITF Futures career titles, knocked out the tournament’s number one Martin Klizan in the second round and will next take on Federico Delbonis. The 26-year-old from Argentina celebrated his third victory over Spaniard Tommy Robredo in as many meetings between the two, winning 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 12 minutes.
Second seed Jiri Vesely from the Czech Republic had to face a difficult first set against Uladzimir Ignatik of Belarus but eventually emerged victorious 7-6, 6-1 in one hour and 35 minutes. The two time Prostejov champion will next face Tenny Sandgren. The 25-year-old from the United States overcame fifth favourite Nicolas Kicker of Argentina, rallying 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 56 minutes.
