MARBURG, June 13, 2017
World No. 97 Marco Cecchinato leads the official player’s acceptance list of the Marburg Open released on Monday. The €43,000 ATP Challenger event will be held on clay from 1 to 8 July at venue of the TV 1965 Marburg.
Cecchinato will be joined by fellow Italians Lorenzo Giustino and Alessandro Giannessi as well as Spanish veterans Guillermo Garcia-López, Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo and former World No. 5 Tommy Robredo. The 35-year-old from Hostalric struggled with injuries in recent times and missed half of last year’s season due to an elbow surgery. His best result in 2017 came in Marrakech in April, reaching the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 event.
A couple of young guns will also come to Marburg. #NextGen ATP stars Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece and Casper Ruud of Norway as well as Portuguese Joao Domingues will fight for the title and the 80 ATP ranking points at stake. Defending champion Jan Satral from the Czech Republic and 2016 titlist Inigo Cervantes of Spain will also return.
