Elias Ymer conquered Monday’s #NextGenATP contest against Duck Hee Lee of Korea, winning 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round of the men’s qualifying at Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old from Sweden sent down eight aces and broke serve four times to advance in one hour and three minutes.

“The thing is I’ve always been working hard. It’s just I think sometimes it didn’t click,” told Ymer Wimbledon.com. The youngster is currently ranked World No. 266. “I was one match away from top 100 when I was 19 and then everything can change. 

“It’s small details that can change everything. Now I’m just thinking about going back and working every day.” 

Ymer will next take on British teenager Jay Clarke, who beat Marcelo Arevalo from El Salvadro 6-3, 6-4. Another win and the Swedish youngster will be only one match away of reaching his first Grand Slam main draw since the 2015 US Open. 

“I’ve had a restart to regroup and everything. It’s been kind of tough but I’m working my way up,” Ymer told. 

The top seed of the men’s qualifying has fallen at the first hurdle. Italy’s Alessandro Giannessi was knocked out by Pedro Sousa from Portugal 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 30 minutes.

Second favourite Santiago Giraldo of Colombia also lost his opening match suffering a 6-4, 6-3 defeat to Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.
