Benjamin Becker, who fell in the second round of the Wimbledon Qualifying on Wednesday against Illya Marchenko from the Ukraine 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, clarified that he is not planning to retire from professional tennis after this match.

The 36-year-old German, who has dropped from a career high ranking of World No. 35 to No. 228 let slip three match points in the second set only to eventually lose the match in a tight third. After this two hours and 24 minutes encounter, he should have told reporters, that this was his last match.

The German Tennis Federation (DTB) got in touch with Becker and the veteran told that a final decision has not been made.

The Merzig native still intends to play World Team Tennis in the United States during the summer months and pointed out that a final decision will highly depend on his physical condition. Becker, who studied at the Baylor University in Texas from 2001 to 2005, wants to finish his degree in International Business and Finance after his tennis career.

In 2006, Becker famously ended Andre Agassi’s career at Arthur Ashe Stadium, beating him in his final US Open.
