BAKIO, July 2, 2017
Roberto Ortega-Olmedo is the champion of the “XXXIII” OPEN KIROLETA “Bakio Udala Saria”, a $25,000 ITF Pro Circuit event held on hard courts at the Club Kiroleta in Bakio, a municipality in the province of Biscay.
The World No. 358 emerged victorious from Saturday’s all-Spanish-final with teenager Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, rallying 0-6, 6-2, 6-1.
After a strong start from Davidovich, Ortega-Olmedo eventually found his rhythm, winning 55 per cent of his first service points and broke serve five times to seal victory in one hour and 34 minutes.
By clinching his third ITF Futures title of the season – all on hard court – the 26-year-old earns $3,600 in prize money as well as 25 ATP ranking points.
“I am very happy to have won the title but there is still room for improvement. I missed twice to hold serve being 40-0 up and that was not normal,” Ortega-Olmego told. “My family was here and Bakio is very special to me, and that has given me the strength to continue fighting. Davidovich has started very strong but in the second set I was able to show my best tennis. Now I want to continue adding ATP points thinking about entering the US Open.”
Ortega-Olmedo And Vega Hernadenz Win Doubles Crown
Later in the day, the Madrid resident also captured the doubles crown. Teaming up with his compatriot David Vega Hernadez, Ortega-Olmedo defeated the all Spanish combination of Carlos Gomez Herrera and Juan Lizariturry, winning the final 6-3, 6-2 in 62 minutes.
