Stebe Keeps Rolling At Marburg Open

In an all-German-quarterfinal clash at the €43,000 Marburg Open, Cedrik-Marcel Stebe came out on top on Thursday as he edged TennisBase Oberhaching teammate Yannick Hanfmann 6-4, 6-3.

In the pair’s first meeting, Stebe saved all three break points he faced and converted two of his own. The 26-year-old from Muehlacker won 55 per cent of the total points played to advance after one hour and 15 minutes.

Next up for Stebe, who lifted his fifth ATP Challenger trophy in Poprad-Tatry two weeks ago, will be Arthur de Greef, the highest-ranked player left in the draw. The tournament’s number three from Belgium defeated Benjamin Bonzi of France 6-2, 7-5. De Greef finished the encounter after one hour and 13 minutes without facing a break point.

Sixth seed Guillermo Garcia-López battled past Brazilian qualifier Joao Pedro Sorgi 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. The Spanish veteran broke serve four times to prevail after two hours and two minutes. Garcia-López will next take on Filip Krajinovic from Serbia, who beat Matthias Bachinger from Germany 7-5, 6-1 in one hour and 24 minutes.
