Henri Laaksonen opened first round action of the SkiStar Swedish Open in Bastad, beating local hero and #NextGenATP star Mikael Ymer 7-6, 7-5 on Monday afternoon.
The World No. 100 from Switzerland won 71 per cent of his first service points and broke serve five times to advance after two hours and 24 minutes. Laaksonen will next take on third seed Pablo Cuevas from Uruguay.
Earlier in the day, Federico Delbonis and Leonardo Mayer of Argentina, Belgium’s Arthur de Greef and Maximilian Marterer from Germany qualified for the main draw of the ATP 250 event. Delbonis will face the tournament’s number eight David Ferrer, Mayer will play Aleksandr Dolgopolov, Marterer will challenge seventh seed David Schwartzman and de Greef set a first round clash with Ernests Gulbis.
In the evening, former champions returned to the courts to celebrate the tournament’s 70th anniversary in a special legends match between Team Sweden and Team France featuring Mats Wilander, Mikael Pernfors, Cedric Pioline and Guy Forget amongst others.
