Roberto Carballés-Baena captured his third ATP Challenger title, winning Sunday’s final of the €64,000 Internazionali di Tennis di Cortina 6-1, 6-3 against Austrian Gerald Melzer.
The fourth seed from Spain was in total control of the match, winning 82 per cent of his first service points. Carballés-Baena didn’t a face break point, converting five of his own to secure victory in only 55 minutes.
By taking his first title since Mohammedia in 2015, the 24-year-old Tenerife native takes away €9,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points.
On Saturday, Guido Andreozzi of Argentina and Gerald Melzer clinched the doubles trophy, upsetting the top seeds Steven de Waard from Australia and Ben Mclachlan of Japan in the final 6-2, 7-6. The encounter lasted one hour and 16 minutes.
