Roger Federer, who is currently involved in a race to the top of the ATP rankings along with Rafael Nadal, will attempt to win his 16th consecutive match as he faces Robin Haase of the Netherlands in the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank in Montréal.

Federer defeated Roberto Bautista-Agut of Spain 6-4, 6-4, winning 81 per cent of his first service points to finish the encounter after 68 minutes. Haase rallied past Diego Schwartzman from Argetina 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in two hours and three minutes. Clash Of The Young Guns

The second semi-final will feature two of the next generation of ATP stars in Denis Shapovalov and Alexander Zverev. By taking out Frenchman Adrian Mannarino on Friday, the 18-year-old Canadian became the youngest player in history to qualify for the stage of the final four at an ATP Masters 1000 event.

Zverev edged past Kevin Anderson from South Africa. 7-5, 6-4. The fourth seed from Germany capitalized on three of his five break point chances to prevail after one hour and 31 minutes. Zverev was crowned champion at the Citi Open in Washington last week.

“I’m trying not to think about it too much. I’m trying to play every match the same way,” Zverev said of his recent run. “I’m playing well on the biggest stages of the world, so hopefully I can do so in the next few matches”
