Valkusz Books First ITF Futures Final Spot

Mate Valkusz advanced to his first singles final on the ITF Pro Circuit, reaching the title match of the $15,000 Karlsruhe Open on Saturday. The 19-year-old from Hungary knocked out the tournament’s number one Sebastian Fanselow of Germany 6-3, 6-4.

Valkusz is a former World No. 1 in the combined junior ranking and captured the title of the 2015 Yucatán Cup, a Grade 1 event in Mérida as well as the Canadian Open Junior Championships in Repentigny. He was also a semi-finalist at the 2015 Orange Bowl and finished runner-up at the 2015 Osaka Mayor’s Cup. Valkusz also made it to the stage of the final four at the 2015 Australian Open boys’ doubles and 2015 French Open boys’ doubles events.

The teenager will take on second seed Jan Choinski. The 21-year-old cruised past fellow German Benjamin Hassan 6-1, 6-2 in only 48 minutes.

Florian Fallert and Peter Heller took the doubles crown with a 6-2, 6-7, 10-7 victory over Frenchmen Dan Added and Hugo Daubias. The Germans finished the encounter after one hour and 32 minutes.
