NEW YORK, August 23, 2017
Rod Laver, Roger Federer and John McEnroe announced on Wednesday the captain’s picks for the inaugural Laver Cup. Alexander Zverev will build on his stunning breakthrough season as the final member for Team Europe in Prague.
“I’m so excited and grateful for this opportunity,” the 20-year-old German told on the official website. “My idol when I was growing up was Roger Federer, so to even compete against him was already extremely special. Now to be on a team with him is almost surreal.
“Then on top of that you have Rafael Nadal and other big stars in the same team. It’s going to be an incredible time.”
Juan Martin del Potro and Denis Shapovalov will be the final members for the line up for Team World.
Their team captain John McEnroe is thrilled with the unique ability that each man brings to his team.
“I’m very excited that Juan Martin del Potro and Denis Shapovalov will be part of Team World to compete for the first Laver Cup,” McEnroe said.
“We all know that we face a tremendous opposition in Team Europe but I believe our players will prove that our team is up for the challenge.”
The inaugural Laver Cup will be held at the O2 arena in Prague, Czech Republic, from September 22-24, 2017 and is supported by Founding Partner Rolex and Global Sponsor JPMorgan Chase.
